We will be using relief printmaking techniques, printing directly from natural objects such as leaves and feathers, to create some beautiful work.
I will provide a selection of objects but you may also want to bring along your own, which should be pressed flat and be completely dry. See what you can find in the garden or hedgerows.
This is a quick, experimental process and it is possible to produce quite a number of prints in one day.
You will be able to explore working in both positive and negative: rolling ink onto the objects to create a positive impression, and also using objects as stencils to create a negative silhouette. Both approaches have exciting possibilities.
This way of working makes me appreciate the huge variety that exists in the shapes of leaves. Feathers print amazingly well, in positive or negative.
No previous printmaking experience necessary.
